Why tariff management matters Despite the tough economic conditions facing European businesses, one in five companies are still overspending by as much as 20% on their mobile and data services, according to the respected ICT analyst firm Gartner. Many small and medium-sized enterprises (SME's) have so far failed to tackle the problem. One in three SME's and half of larger enterprises still do not have a company policy in place to govern the procurement and management of their mobile and data wireless services, Gartner surveys reveal. Almost half of those polled in the surveys also indicated that they rely on their supplier to recommend a tariff rather than investigate the options themselves, despite 47% rating their provider's overall services as poor or just satisfactory. This paper aims to help address this issue by discussing ways businesses can better manage the procurement and optimisation of their mobile and wireless data services; create user profiles to provide insight into which devices, services, training, software and support will best align with broader business IT strategies; source the best contract to ensure that networks, devices, software, services and support are cost-effective and aligned with business needs.
